There are several types of natural bristles, but the most widely used are pig bristles collected in the different Chinese provinces, such as Tjanjin, Qingdao, Shanghai, Yangzhou, Nanjing and Chongqing.

This is where all the preparation and processing of the raw natural bristles takes place, right up to their cooking, to then be used in the production of brushes, brooms and brushes.

In the past, bristles were divided into different categories depending on the region of origin, such as Chungking, Shanghai, Tsingtao, Hankow and Tiensin. However, since the year 2000, the collection of natural bristles has become increasingly difficult and intensified breeding has led to the recovery of natural bristles from different Chinese regions and mixing them together, thus standardising their quality.

The gradual increase in the prices of natural bristles from around 20 Euro/kg in 2013 in the 89/95mm sizes to around 60 Euro/kg in 2020; at the beginning of 2023 an 89mm bristle with 90% fullness tops costs around 65-66 Euro/kg, these increases have led to an increased use of synthetic filaments.
